Artists and Activities
The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus is a professional choir that is well-known for performing diverse repertoire that highlights music from various cultures and ethnicities, all with a theme of tolerance, peace and unity. Since 1995, the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus has provided children of all ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds with a program of music education and choral performance, while advancing a model of artistic excellence and diversity that enriches the community. Educational activities included in the performance focus on cultural awareness and tolerance. These will include a 30-minute activity, which will be based on grade level and can be customized to meet the needs of the students as expressed by the school administrator or teacher.
Activities in the Celebramos: Songs from Latin American can include those to enrich current lessons and cultural differences through songs and dances. This gives students the opportunity to learn dance movements with a trained choreographer. Handouts will be distributed and teachers will receive practice tracks for their class.
The Holocaust Memorial concert can serve as an introduction to the Holocaust or a supplement to current lessons. Students will learn about Terezin (Theresienstadt) Concentration Camp through the eyes of children imprisoned there. Depending upon grade level, a post-performance discussion can be held. The CD, Journey of the Butterfly, will be distributed to teachers as an enrichment to the performance. Program length: One-hour performance followed by a 30-minute learning activity.
Educational and residency activities are available.
